Salvation Army to accept Christmas applications

The Salvation Army, 501 E. 12th Ave., will begin taking applications for Christmas assistance by the following schedule:

• For families with children up to 12 years old: 9-11:30 a.m. and 1-3 p.m. Monday through Friday, Oct. 3–7.

• For senior adults (65 and older): 9-11:30 a.m. and 1-3 p.m. Thursday through Friday, Oct. 13–14.

All applicants must provide the following:

Photo ID for the head of the household (driver’s license or state ID);

Proof of residence (such as a utility bill, phone bill, rental agreement or mail that matches the ID with zip codes);

Proof of household income: (such as a paycheck stub, Department of Human Services paperwork, unemployment documentation, food stamp documentation or documentation that shows how the applicant maintains their household);

Proof of children: such as TANF papers, birth certificate, shot records that show date of birth or any legal form that has the parent’s name and the child’s name and date of birth (Social Security cards won’t be accepted as proof that this is your child, the Salvation Army spokesman said);

Proof that the child has the same address as the head of household such as a Medicaid form, report cards, shot records or lease agreement;

Clothing/shoe sizes for all children (12 and under); and gift suggestions for all children (12 and under.)

Applicants must not bring children to the Salvation Army when registering or the applicant won’t be allowed to register. Details: Lt. Stephanie Hargis, the Salvation Army, 534-0504.
