Salvation Army plans community Thanksgiving dinner

The Salvation Army will host a Community Thanksgiving Dinner from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 21, at its main building, 501 E. 12th Ave.

Five hundred tickets will be distributed to people free Monday through Friday, Nov. 9-13, at the Salvation Army. The dinner, planned as a “come and go” event, with music provided, will be supported by the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff and area businesses. It is intended to serve individuals who might otherwise not have Thanksgiving dinner.

Service clubs, volunteer organizations, college students, community leaders, Sunday school classes, families or individuals are welcome to assist in serving this meal as well as helping with the set up and cleanup of this event. Many clubs, congregations and groups have helped the Salvation Army in the past with its holiday services to Pine Bluff and may even consider raising their own bar to help even more.

“Over the past year the Salvation Army has considered reinstating this holiday meal, which was discontinued several years ago, to our community,” Salvation Army Captain David Leonard said. “We believe that there is no better time than now to begin this new tradition in our community.”
