Salvation Army Angel Tree campaign needs more volunteers

The Salvation Army Angel Giving Tree campaign in Jefferson County is in full swing and in need of more volunteers to select an angel to make Christmas brighter for area families in need.

“We have Angel Trees set up at The Pines mall, Walmart, USA Drugs and Goody’s where people can select an angel that represents a needy child or senior citizen in the community,” Captain Joanna Robinson said Wednesday. “We are doing better than they are up in Little Rock as far as the number of angels that are being selected so far, but we still have angels left on the trees.”

“Each angel has the name of the child or senior citizen, how old they are, their clothing sizes, and their wants and needs,” Robinson said. “A volunteer can buy everything on the person’s list, just the clothes or just the toys.”

The deadline to return items to the Salvation Army is Dec. 16 and the agency will use its funds to buy the needed items for angels who were not selected, but that is something they we are trying to avoid, Robinson said.

“We had a couple of local corporations who came in this week and together picked up the 215 angels we had here at our office, which we are so thankful for,” Robinson said.

The Salvation Army is also asking for volunteers who would be willing to help assemble the gift boxes and bags for each needy family.
