Sylvester Smith, state director of the National Federation of Independent Business, says Arkansas’ upcoming sales tax holiday will be a big help to families and small businesses still recovering from the recession. This year’s holiday is Aug. 4-5.
“The sales tax holiday is kind of like the day after Thanksgiving,” Smith said. “It gets people fired up and in the mood to shop, and that’s exactly what our economy needs right now.” Working on behalf of its 3,700 members, NFIB/Arkansas worked for four years to win passage of legislation creating the sales-tax holiday in 2011.
