Ridgway starts junior high season on top

Twins Brooks and Grant Bias accounted for all seven touchdowns, leading host Ridgway Christian to a season-opening 46-6 win over Arkansas Christian of Bryant in junior high eight-man football Tuesday.

Brooks Bias, a fullback, carried the ball seven times for 132 yards and three touchdowns and added a two-point conversion. He scored twice in the first half.

Quarterback Grant Bias had 43 yards on two carries, both going for TDs. He also returned an interception 40 yards and kickoff return 75 yards for scores.

Also for the Eagles, Jacob Lewis ran seven times for 69 yards and scored a two-point play.

Ridgway was solid defensively, outscoring Arkansas Christian 20-0 in the second half. Brooks Bias led the charge with nine tackles and an interception, Baker Rodgers tallied eight tackles including a sack and Lewis also had eight tackles.

The Eagles will face Arkansas Christian again on Sept. 16. They are idle next Tuesday.

The Ridgway high school team, whose game at Mount Olive in Athens, La., was cancelled, will begin their season Friday at home against Arkansas Christian.
