Ridgway gets first football win

LITTLE ROCK — The first-ever football game Ridgway Christian played goes down as a victory for the Eagles’ junior high team beat Southwest Christian 32-16 on Tuesday.

Ridgway had a 16-8 lead at halftime and was up 32-8 when Southwest scored with about a minute left in the game.

“It was a good team effort,” Ridgway coach Trent Young said. “The offensive line did a good job and the back ran hard. It was a good start for us.”

This is the first year Ridgway has supported a football program.

Cody Andersen scored all four touchdowns for Ridgway. He ran for 202 yards on 11 carries and scored one of the touchdowns on an 80-yard kickoff return.

Jacob Andersen scored two two-point conversion and Andrew McMahan added another. Jacob Dedman added 35 yards on five carries.

Ridgway did not have to punt in the game and did not attempt a pass.

On defense, Cody Andersen had eight tackles and a fumble recovery for Ridgway. Jacob Andersen, Dedman and Ezra Tole all had five tackles.

“They flew to the football and tackled well,” Young said. “We had some breakdowns, but fixed them at the half.”
