Three people escaped a fire without injury Wednesday from a home at 1000 W. 22nd Ave., Pine Bluff Fire and Emergency Services Department Capt. Edward Pinkins said.
An emergency call came at about 6:27 p.m. and five Pine Bluff fire vehicles responded to the blaze. Firefighters used hoses to battle the flames, as thick gray smoke filled the air. Firefighters wearing oxygen masks entered the house to suppress the blaze.
“Our main thing is to keep our guys hydrated and make sure the fire does not re-start,” Pinkins said. “Residents will not be returning to the house tonight.”
The firefighters extinguished the blaze within three minutes of their arrival, Pinkins said. An ambulance happened to be in the area and responded, but no one required medical treatment, Pinkins said.
A smell of smoke filled the neighborhood. Dozens of people watched the scene unfold. West 22nd Avenue and South Poplar Street were temporarily closed to allow the first responders to battle the blaze.
Assistant Fire Marshal Lt. Randy Compton arrived on scene at about 7 p.m. Pinkins said Compton will investigate the fire. The Red Cross was dispatched to the scene to assist the family.
