Report of disturbance leads to arrest

While patrolling in central Pine Bluff early Monday morning and attempting to locate the source of gunshots, a police officer was flagged down by a man who said his son was at his house damaging the furniture.

Pine Bluff Police Detective Steve Rucker said in a probable cause affidavit that the man said his son, Anthony Davis Jr., 37, also had a gun and was “high on drugs.”

When Pine Bluff Police Officer Matt Wright and other officers arrived at the scene, the elder Davis told them he could get the gun away from his son; when officers followed him into the house, they saw Davis Jr., hand the gun to his father.

An ambulance was called because Davis Jr. appeared to be under the influence of something, and he had to be physically restrained and put into the ambulance for the trip to the hospital.

Rucker reported that while Davis Jr. was being restrained, he put his hand in his pocket and initially refused to take it out; when officers got the hand out, it held a green Pom Pom pack. At the hospital while Davis Jr. was being examined, he grabbed a key and stabbed a male nurse in the forearm, cutting the arm.

Rucker reported that Davis Jr. had previously been convicted of aggravated assault on a family or household member in 2010, and the gun had been reported stolen in 1986.

Jefferson County District Judge Kim Bridgforth set a $25,000 bond for Davis Jr. Friday after ruling prosecutors have probable cause to charge him with second-degree battery, theft by receiving and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

The Public Defender’s Office was appointed to represent Davis Jr.
