Registration open for Girl Scout camps

Girl Scouts – Diamonds of Arkansas, Oklahoma and Texas invites all girls in first to 12th grades to register for summer camp. Girls can select camp sessions with 58 options, according to a press release.

Sessions are offered at Camp Cahinnio at Booneville and Camp Crossed Arrows at Floral. To sample what camp has to offer, interested participants may attend the free family day and open house for Camp Cahinnio, from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 8, and from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 29, at Camp Crossed Arrows.

Camp activities include archery, hiking, rock climbing, horseback riding, canoeing, arts and crafts, campfires and s’mores. For those who don’t have previous Girl Scout experience, they will pay an additional $15 to become a member when they register for camp.

“Girls attending a week of resident camp experience 68 hours of the Girl Scout Leadership Experience, which engages girls in discovering themselves, connecting with others and taking action to make the world a better place,” according to the news release. “Camp provides a safe, positive, fun and adventurous setting, which encourages discovery, problem solving and self-growth. It’s a place where every girl explores the joys of camping and being outside, discovers independence and self-reliance, learns new skills, makes lifelong friends, experiences group living and compromise, has fun, expands self-confidence, shares dreams and laughter and much more, all within a set of controlled, safe boundaries.”
