Monday, April 16, is the last day to register for the 19th Annual Mary E. Benjamin Educational Access Conference.
The conference will be held April 18-April 19 in the H.O. Clemmons Arena of the Kenneth L. Johnson, Sr. HPER Complex on the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff campus.
The cost of registration is $85 per person with limited partial scholarships available for students. Registration forms are available at www.uapb.edu/edaccess.
With the theme, “Problem-Based Learning: Challenges, Components, Benefits” as the focus, the conference will begin at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, April 18, with registration followed by a plenary session and concurrent workshops.
Plenary speakers include: Stephen A. Bernhardt, professor and Kirkpatrick Chair in Writing in the Department of English at the University of Delaware; Shane Broadway, interim director of the Arkansas Department of Higher Education; and Tom Kimbrell, education commissioner for the Arkansas Department of Education; and Richard Milner IV, associate professor of education in the Department of Teaching and Learning at Vanderbilt University (3:30 p.m.). Steven Zipkes, principal of Manor New Tech High School in Manor, Texas, will be featured as the luncheon speaker.
Thursday’s plenary session will start with a 7:15 a.m. breakfast with Zipkes followed by a plenary session with Tom Burnett, vice chairman-manager of strategic initiatives of Apple Computer Inc. in Austin, Texas; and concurrent workshops on both days on topics such as Literacy, Black Males, Mathematics, Reducing Remediation, Science, and Diversity along with a student-teacher roundtable focused on teacher quality.
