The first week on the road this season ended without a win for the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff baseball team.
Arkansas State wrapped up a three-game weekend sweep Sunday by defeating UAPB 7-2 at Tomlinson Stadium in Jonesboro.
After falling behind early, UAPB (4-9) tied the game at 1 in the top of the second inning when shortstop Zach Wieder scored on a two-out fielding error by Red Wolf second baseman Lane Walton.
A-State (9-3) retook the lead in the bottom of the third on a solo home run by right fielder Evan Griffis and a two-RBI single by third baseman Raul Torres. The Red Wolves went on to lead 7-1 until UAPB substitute designated hitter Nick Hockemeyer hit his first home run of the season in the sixth.
UAPB starting pitcher Kenney Fabian (0-3) allowed four runs on four hits, two walks and two strikeouts in 2 2/3 innings. Reagan James allowed three runs on five hits with three strikeouts in 3 2/3 innings. Jack Hasten pitched 1 2/3 scoreless innings to close out the game.

The Red Wolves also used three pitchers, who each pitched three innings. Left-handed starter Dylan Farley allowed one unearned run on one hit and three walks with one strikeout in the first three innings. UAPB tallied three hits and a run against Cooper Garrison (1-0) before Tyler Weimer retired the final nine hitters of the game.
Over the three-game series, A-State outscored UAPB 28-5 and outhit the Golden Lions 34-14.
After Missouri swept a two-game midweek series earlier in the week, UAPB finished its first road trip 0-5 and will take a seven-game losing streak into Tuesday’s midweek home game against UA-Little Rock at the Torii Hunter Baseball Complex.
