The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff came up empty during Tuesday’s in-state road trip.
Arkansas State defeated the UAPB baseball team 10-0 in eight innings in Jonesboro in the first of two meetings this year between the Red Wolves and Golden Lions.
A-State (4-0) used two pitchers to pick up the shutout. Collin Maloney (1-0) earned the win after a four-inning start, while Blaine Harpenau picked up his first save of the season after pitching the final four innings.
Maloney allowed two hits, while Harpenau allowed none. The pair combined to strike out 12 batters with three walks.
JaKobi Jackson and Carolos Rodriguez-Velez had the hits for UAPB (2-2). Rodriguez also walked.

UAPB starter Jordan Jones (0-2) took the loss after a 5.1 inning start during which he allowed 4 runs on six hits. He struck out five batters and walked two.
A-State led 2-0 entering the bottom of the fifth but doubled its lead with one out when Blake Burris hit a 2-run home run. The Red Wolves went on to score 3 runs in the sixth, when Allen Grier hit a 2-RBI triple, followed by a Wil French RBI double.
A-State scored 2 runs in the seventh, then walked UAPB off when Brandon Hager drew a bases-loaded walk to trigger the run rule.
UAPB will host A-State in a rematch on March 26 at the Torii Hunter Baseball Complex in Pine Bluff.
