Red Cross issues appeal during national blood donor month

January is National Blood Donor Month, a time when the American Red Cross thanks the millions of dedicated blood donors and urges others to give.

Every day, around 44,000 pints of blood are needed in hospitals. January can be challenging for blood collections because of inclement weather and seasonal illnesses, however eligible donors are asked to continue to give to help blood supplies remain plentiful.

• Wednesday — 1-4 p.m. at Riceland Mill, 302 N. Grand Ave., Stuttgart.
