Rap session at Dollarway to address police, crime

State and local officials will host a rap session at 9:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 15, at Dollarway High School to address issues regarding police and crime.

The discussion will include police shootings, the correct ways to handle situations with police officers and what happens when a crime is committed.

“It is very important to get face-to-face with the kids and have these conversations,” Gould Police Chief Efrem Elliott said in a news release.

“It is important that they see the local leaders in the fields of law enforcement, court systems and political officials from their own communities speak out,” Elliott said.

In addition to Elliott, participants will include District Court Judge John Kearney, Major Lafayette Woods Jr. of the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, Prosecuting Attorney Kyle Hunter of Jefferson and Lincoln counties, Arkansas State Police Lt. Randell Diaz, Juvenile Justice Center Judge Earnest Brown, Pine Bluff Assistant Police Chief Kelvin Sergeant, Maurice Taggert of the Pine Bluff City Attorney’s Office, and Jefferson County Prevention Coalition Director Hank Wilkins V.

After the introduction of the speakers, topics will be addressed by teachers and facilitators in a question and answer format. Details: Gould Police Chief Efrem Elliott, 870-730-9759.
