Quorum committees to consider accepting donated building

Committees of the Jefferson County Quorum Court on Wednesday will consider an ordinance accepting the donation of a building to the county when they meet at 5:30 p.m.

The meeting was moved from its normal Tuesday schedule because of the rodeo parade downtown.

The building, located at 5201 W. Barraque St., was formerly occupied by Entergy Arkansas and includes 27,000 square feet of office and storage space. It is being donated by Pine Bluff Investment Properties LLC, which acquired it from Newkirk Bluff L.P. in 2017.

Also on the agenda Wednesday is a supplemental appropriation of $40,000 to cover the costs associated with the November General Election and a $3,502.03 appropriation for the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office. Those funds were received from an insurance company for damages to two vehicles not associated with the hail storm.

Other appropriation ordinances on the agenda Wednesday include:

  • $4,633 for the County Treasurer’s Office to pay off a bill for an office copier and other uses.
  • $20,000 for MECA, with half the money going to part-time salaries and the other half to overtime. The funds will come from unused salaries.
  • $1,300 for the First Division of Circuit Court for telephone and fax expenses.
  • $10,000 for the County Clerk’s Office to pay part-time salaries and benefits for workers involved in the general election and for supplies.

The county’s legislative body will also consider the appointment of Travis D. White Jr. to a one-year term on the Pine Bluff/Jefferson County Library System Board of Trustees and increasing the mileage rate for using a private vehicle for county business to 54.5 cents per mile. According to a memo from the IRS, that figure is an increase of one cent since 2017.
