Putting party before people, country, common decency

Editor, The Commercial:

The column by Steve Barnes was interesting. I was raised in a Baptist church culture that was racist, homophobic and denigrated women as subservient. At 77, I have learned better than that now. Divorce was not considered and adultery was unthinkable if one wanted to stay in their church.

However, it still astounds me that Mike Huckabee and his daughter, Sarah, would condone such a man with his history as we know Donald Trump to be. That puts party before people, before country, and before common decency in my view. The man is deranged, in my view, and a menace to our country and our democracy!

My mom used to tell me that genius will make itself known. But by that same token, so will stupidity! That you can tell the character and quality of a person by the company that they keep.

Mom died at 93 after rearing 11 kids. She said if folks don’t want thugs in their community —- then quit raising thugs. We always knew that there is not and never has been a free lunch. To the degree a person grows dependent on others for a hand out — to that degree they are owned by those they depend upon. If folks think education is expensive —- try ignorance!
