Archwell Health, a health clinic that provides services to seniors, is planning to open a clinic in Jefferson Square Shopping Center, according to documents filed with the city of Pine Bluff.
The for-profit entity, which has 51 locations in mostly larger cities from Nevada to Florida’s Gulf Coast, has applied to the Pine Bluff Planning Commission for permission to operate in the shopping center.
Archwell officials were reached by phone but declined to answer questions about their planned operation.
The company’s application, gained through a Freedom of Information request, shows it plans to take over what had been three adjoining spaces on the north side of the shopping center. Two of the spaces are now vacant. The location between those businesses, Fathers and Sons Clothier, was recently forced out of the shopping center, where it had been for almost 20 years, to make room for Archwell, which will occupy close to 11,000 square feet of space. The clothing store is now located in Woodlands Plaza in White Hall. (See related story to the left.)
“Archwell Health is a primary medical care clinic designed to provide better care for senior citizens aged 60+,” the company said in its application. “Archwell Health offers primary care, lab work, vaccinations, care management, preventative health screenings, nutrition education, cardiology telehealth, social work referrals, and much more.”

The business, which was organized in Delaware with headquarters in Nashville, Tenn., says in its application that it will have 10 employees at the Pine Bluff location. A drawing of the facility shows 12 exam rooms, four telemedicine rooms, two offices for case managers, one for a social worker, a conference room, two nurses stations, an activity room, waiting area and one larger space for “Growth.”
Archwell is asking for a “use permit on review” because the B-1 Zoning for the shopping center does not specifically allow for a medical clinic, even though there is an orthodontic office operating in the center and one of the vacant spaces that would be taken over by Archwell had also served orthodontic patients.
Planning Commission officials said the company’s application will be on the agenda for its next meeting, scheduled for July 30.
Archwell Health has three locations in Birmingham, Ala., two in Charlotte, N.C.; 10 along Florida’s Gulf Coast; three in Kansas City, Mo.; eight in Las Vegas; three in Oklahoma City; three in Omaha, Neb.; 10 in Phoenix; four in St. Louis; three in Tucson, Ariz.; and two in Tulsa.
Jefferson Square Shopping Center is operated by AlbaneseCormier Holdings LLC, a commercial real estate and property management company located in Beaumont, Texas. A representative for the management company, at the Jefferson Square location, said the move to install a national company in the center, over smaller mom-and-pop businesses, was consistent with its other shopping center locations around the country.
