Prosecutors receive case file in Holcomb shooting

Prosecuting Attorney S. Kyle Hunter said Wednesday his office has received the evidence from the police investigation into the Jan. 11 shooting death of Tommy Holcomb Sr. and is reviewing the file to determine if charges are warranted in the case.

Holcomb, 60, was the constable of Niven Township and the younger brother of Jefferson County Judge Mike Holcomb.

Tommy Holcomb was killed in reported shooting incident on the parking lot of the Speedway gas station at 3700 S. Camden Road at about 5:45 p.m.

A second man, Edward Earl Blundell, 29, of Pine Bluff was wounded in the incident and taken to Jefferson Regional Medical Center where he was treated and released. Holcomb was pronounced dead at the hospital by emergency room doctors.

No arrests have been made and Hunter said it would probably be next week before any decision is made on whether criminal charges would be filed.

According to the initial police reports, Blundell’s wife Carrie Blundell was in the driver’s seat when the incident occurred and told police that her husband and Holcomb got into an argument over the two vehicles almost hitting each other. Carrie Blundell told police that both men pulled out guns and began shooting.

Police have said that both men were outside of their vehicles at various points during the argument, but Blundell was back inside his vehicle in the front passenger seat when the shooting occurred. Carrie Blundell was in the front seat and the couple’s 1-year-old child was in the backseat of their vehicle.

Police have reported that the weapon found by Holcomb’s body and the weapon reportedly used by Blundell during the incident were both sent to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory at Little Rock for testing.
