Prosecutor says he will not seek re-election

Kyle Hunter, the 11th West Circuit prosecuting attorney, announced Tuesday he will not seek re-election.

Hunter is currently on his fourth term as Jefferson and Lincoln counties’ top prosecutor. The term will end Dec. 31, 2026.

He went to work for the prosecutor’s office in 1999 as deputy prosecutor and later served as chief deputy from 2001-10, according to a news release. He first won election as prosecuting attorney in 2010 and took office in January 2011.

The nonpartisan filing period for the March 3, 2026, election for prosecuting attorney begins Nov. 3 and concludes Nov. 11.
