Proposed raises on quorum committee agenda

Proposed salary increases for emergency dispatchers and a request for raises for employees of the Circuit Clerk’s Office will be considered when committees of the Jefferson County Quorum Court meet at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Quorum Court room.

Also, Jefferson County Coroner’s Office is asking that $5,000 that was pulled from their budget two years ago during the budget crunch be put back. The proposed salary hikes for employees of the Metropolitan Emergency Communications Association had been on the agenda during the meeting in May but the item was pulled for more information. According to the proposed budget, dispatchers will receive a $1,000 a year increase, which has already been approved by the MECA board.

Regarding the raises for circuit clerk’s office, Clerk Lafayette Woods Sr. is proposing to eliminate one slot from County General and one from the Cost Recorder’s Fund. A proposed salary schedule attached to the proposed ordinance shows six employees are currently paid from county general, three others from the recorder’s cost fund and three others from Child Support. The proposed increases range from a high of $12,000 to a low of $101, with most employees receiving an increase of at least $1,000 annually.

Coroner Chad Kelley said he had agreed to a one-time reduction in 2015 and discussed the matter when then Legislative Assistant Daniel Marks. He said he was told it could be put back into the budget after the first quarter of the year. Kelley also wants to transfer $8,000 from one account to another to cover the cost of supplies. Another proposed ordinance to be considered would transfer $15,432.72 from County General to the Road Department. The money is from an insurance reimbursement.
