Police: Suspect damaged patrol car, attacked officer

Police sent to investigate a domestic disturbance on Wednesday arrested a man on outstanding warrants, who reportedly then proceeded to cause damage to the patrol unit he was placed in and injury to the arresting officer.

Pine Bluff Police Department Detective Steven Rucker reported that Joe Bryant, 25, of Pine Bluff, kicked out the back windows of the patrol unit he was detained in and kicked the arresting officer when he attempted to restrain him, causing bruising and swelling to the officer’s arms.

During a court hearing Thursday, Pine Bluff District Judge John L. Kearney set a $50,000 bond for Bryant after ruling prosecutors had probable cause to charge him with second degree battery and criminal mischief.

Bryant said he would hire his own attorney and was told to come back to court Aug. 30.
