Pine Bluff police are continuing their investigation into the Tuesday night shooting of a Pine Bluff man, and subsequent damage to at least one business in the same area that may be connected.
According to a police report, Gary L. Carter,26, was shot in the right leg near his calf while he was standing outside 3024 N. Midland Park Drive.
The shooting occurred at about 10:10 p.m., and several people who were at the scene said they were inside a business playing dominoes when they heard gunshots outside. A short time later, Carter came in the business with a wound to his leg.
One car that was on the parking lot had several bullet holes on the outside and inside, the report said.
A supplemental report from police said an officer and fire department personnel responded to an alarm at L & R Distributors, Inc., formerly known as SAJ Distributors, at 1:49 a.m., and an officer noticed water running out of the entrance. There were approximately seven bullet holes on the south side of the building that appeared to have come from the direction of where the shooting had occurred, just southwest of the L & R building.
The report said the building had major flooding upstairs and downstairs, and the ceiling was falling in from water damage, apparently caused by several water pipes upstairs that had been hit by one of the projectiles. The report indicated that the building may have also suffered major computer damage.
Police reported recovering 24 7.62 caliber shell casings and six .223 shell casings from the northwest corner to the west side of the building in front of the garage of 3026 N. Midland Park Drive.
