POLICE BRIEFS: Tuesday, May 23, 2017

A $5,000 cash-only bond was set Monday for a man currently on parole after police found a handgun in his possession.

Pine Bluff District Judge John Kearney set the bond after ruling prosecutors have probable cause to charge Anthony McFadden, 27, with being a felon in possession of a firearm.

According to a probable cause affidavit from Pine Bluff Vice and Narcotics Detective Richard McCorvy, McFadden was arrested Sunday night when McCorvy and Officer Kevin Collins were in the area of West 20th Avenue and Beech Street at 11:38 p.m.

McCorvy reported that they saw a vehicle blocking the roadway next to other vehicles, and he had to go around to the opposite traffic lane in order to pass it. After circling the block, McCorvy went back and found that the vehicle was still there, so he activated the lights on his vehicle and conducted a traffic stop.

Officers reported a strong odor of burnt marijuana coming from inside the vehicle, which was occupied by four people, and when Collins patted down McFadden, he found a .22-caliber handgun in McFadden’s right pocket. After a brief struggle, McFadden was handcuffed. During a search of the vehicle, a small amount of suspected marijuana was found in the floorboard.

While still handcuffed, McFadden ran, but McCorvy reported that the officers caught him a short distance away.

Records at the prosecutor’s office showed that McFadden had prior convictions dating back to 2007, including criminal attempt aggravated robbery, residential burglary, theft of property, aggravated robbery, theft of property a debit card, credit card or account number.

LR man arrested on misdemeanor facing felony drug allegation

A Little Rock man who was arrested on two misdemeanor warrants Saturday will face a felony allegation after suspected drugs were found in his vehicle.

Christopher Henderson, 38, who has pending charges of aggravated assault stemming from an arrest earlier this year, was taken into custody on the parking lot of Terry’s Tots Daycare at 9408 Dollarway Road, White Hall Police Investigator Sgt. Mickey Buffkin said in a probable cause affidavit presented in district court Monday.

According to the affidavit, when White Hall officers conducted an inventory of the vehicle Henderson was driving before releasing it to a wrecker, they found suspected methamphetamine/ice and marijuana.

The suspected drugs will be sent to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory at Little Rock for analysis.

Because of the pending charges, Pine Bluff District Judge John Kearney set a $5,000 cash only bond for Henderson after ruling prosecutors have probable cause to charge him possession of a controlled substance.

Henderson said he would hire his own attorney.

The intake log at the adult detention center said Henderson was being sought for violating an order of protection and harassing communications, both misdemeanor offenses.

Traffic stop leads to drug arrest

A traffic stop by an Arkansas State Trooper in the early morning hours Saturday resulted in the arrest of a Warren man on drug-related charges.

Jamontae Henderson, 23, was arrested by Cpl. Jeff Preston who was northbound on U.S. 63 north of the Jefferson/Cleveland County line when he saw a vehicle traveling 70 miles per hour in a 55 mile-per-hour zone.

Preston reported that the vehicle slowed down to 65 before he stopped it; when he approached the vehicle, he noticed a strong odor of burnt marijuana and small leaflets believed to be marijuana in the center console and on the crotch of the passenger’s pants.

During a search of the vehicle, Preston reported finding a quart-sized bag containing suspected marijuana under some papers in the center console, along with a sandwich-sized bag containing pills believed to be Xanax.

Henderson reportedly told Preston that the drugs were his, and the passenger had no knowledge of them.

The probable cause affidavit from Preston said the bag contained 60 Xanax pills and 9 Oxycodone pills. Henderson did not have a prescription for any of them.

Pine Bluff District Judge John Kearney set a $10,000 bond for Henderson Monday after ruling prosecutors have probable cause to charge him with possession of a controlled substance with purpose to deliver.
