Police arrest two after alleged burglary

Two men were arrested early Thursday morning after they allegedly broke into a restaurant in the Jefferson Square Shopping Center.

Justin Maness, 24, and Brannon James, 31, were taken into custody after the car they were in crashed into a fence in the 300 block of Park Place while being chased by police, Deputy Prosecutor Bryan Achorn said during a court hearing Friday.

Detective Steve Rucker said in a probable cause affidavit that police were called to the China Town Restaurant at 1:15 a.m. and saw a dark gray Chevrolet Impala leave the area.

Achorn said police pursued the car, and after it crashed, Maness and James ran but were caught after a short chase.

When he was interviewed, Maness allegedly said he and James had been drinking in a local bar and he blacked out, and James also allegedly said he had been drinking.

Achorn said money was found inside the vehicle and also on the ground near the vehicle.

Circuit Judge Rob Wyatt Jr. set a $10,000 bond for Maness and a $5,000 bond for James after ruling prosecutors had probable cause to charge them with commercial burglary, theft of property and criminal mischief.
