Police arrest 2 more in murder, related shooting

Pine Bluff Police have arrested two additional suspects in their investigation into two shooting incidents March 18 that resulted in the death of one man and serious injuries to the other.

Kuro’n Brown, 17, was arrested Sunday, and Gujuan Christmas, 21, was taken into custody on Monday. The two join Reginald Henderson, 23, who was arrested last week — all will be held without bond pending the filing of formal charges.

The three are facing charges of capital murder, first-degree battery, 13 counts of committing a terroristic act and 17 counts of discharging a firearm from a vehicle.

They are accused in the death of David Ibemesi, 30, who was found inside a car that had hit a house on March 18 at 2719 S. Cherry St. Ibemesi was taken to Jefferson Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead of apparent gunshot wounds.

A short time later, officers were sent to the area of West 23rd Avenue and Oak Street, where they found Davonte Chapman, 22, inside a Nissan Altima that had wrecked. Chapman was also taken to Jefferson Regional Medical Center, then transferred to a Little Rock hospital, where he is listed in critical condition due to the extent of his injuries, including a bullet lodged in his brain.

Pine Bluff Police Detective Jeremy Oswalt, who worked both incidents, said that he saw what appeared to be eight bullet holes in the car Ibemesi was driving, starting at the front driver’s side, moving along the driver’s side and ending at the driver’s side trunk at the rear.

He reported that he observed what appeared to be two bullet holes in the roof of the Nissan “that appeared to have been shot from the passenger side of the vehicle and traveling in a downward angle toward the driver’s side.”

Henderson, Brown and Christmas were all in the Nissan with Chapman and had left the scene before police arrived but returned later and were interviewed.

During the investigation, police recovered 17 spent 300-blackout caliber shell casings and one live round in the area of West 26th Avenue and Oak Street.

During the two incidents, police were also sent to a house in the 800 block of West 28th Avenue, where the homeowner reported that he, his wife and two children were asleep when they heard multiple gunshots and heard what sounded like the house being hit by gunfire.

Police reported that the house was hit three times, with the rounds going from the back of the house to the front. The backyard of the house is in direct line of sight from West 26th Avenue and Oak Street, where the shell casings were found.
