Pine Bluff’s Flowers appointed to African American Mayors Association’s Board of Trustees

The city of Pine Bluff announced that Mayor Vivian Flowers was appointed to the Board of Trustees for the African American Mayors Association.

The panel is a national network of African American municipal leaders committed to strengthening cities and advancing equitable public policy across the United States, according to a news release.

“Mayor Flowers’ appointment places Pine Bluff among leading municipalities nationwide, helping guide the association’s strategic priorities, federal advocacy efforts, and policy initiatives. The board of trustees plays a vital leadership role in shaping programs and partnerships that directly impact cities in areas such as economic development, public safety, infrastructure, housing, education, and workforce investment,” according to the release.

In this role, Flowers will serve alongside distinguished municipal leaders from across the country, including Karen Bass, mayor of Los Angeles; Brandon Scott, mayor of Baltimore; Steven Reed, mayor of Montgomery; and Frank Scott Jr., mayor of Little Rock.

“This appointment is not only a great honor and responsibility, but an amazing opportunity to represent and promote Pine Bluff in this national leadership role,” said Flowers. “Serving on the board of trustees allows me to collaborate with mayors from across the country while ensuring that Pine Bluff’s voice, progress, and potential are represented on a national stage. It also opens the door for new partnerships, resources, and innovative solutions that can benefit our residents.”

Flowers’ selection strengthens the city’s access to funding opportunities, national networks and policy discussions, according to the release.

“Through her service, Pine Bluff will gain increased visibility and engagement with federal agencies, philanthropic organizations, and municipal leaders working collectively to address challenges facing cities of similar size and demographics,” according to the release.

This appointment supports Pine Bluff’s continued momentum by creating pathways to:

Expanded grant and funding opportunities

National partnerships and pilot programs

Policy advocacy benefiting mid-sized cities

Best-practice sharing in public safety and community development

Economic growth and infrastructure investment strategies.
