Pine Bluff Transit, library set reading program

Pine Bluff Transit and the Pine Bluff/Jefferson County Library System will host the second annual Summer Reading Partnership for children.

The program will be held Monday, June 19, through Thursday, Aug. 31. Buses will run every hour to transport Pine Bluff children to the reading program at the main library at the civic center.

Free rides will be given to school-age children (accompanied by an adult) and teens through the 12th grade, if they show their library cards upon entering a transit bus. The rider will get a return bus pass from the library.

“I believe that our collaboration with the library gives students an opportunity to enhance their reading skills and take part in the other activities and opportunities the library offers,” Charlina Lacy, transit director, said. “We are excited about continuing this partnership for the citizens of Pine Bluff.”

Laura Whitehead is director of the library system.

“The Pine Bluff library offers patrons more than just books,” Whitehead said. “We offer music, games, computer access and so much more. We know this continued collaboration with Pine Bluff Transit will open doors to helping the community discover a brand new relationship with the library and all we offer.”
