Pine Bluff School District plans Knowledge Bowl

The Pine Bluff School District will conduct the annual Knowledge Bowl at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 22, at the Arkansas River Education Service Cooperative, 912 W. Sixth Ave.

Sponsored by the Title I Parent and Family Resource Center, the event features parents and students competing in a Jeopardy type competition. They answer questions about achievements of Arkansas heroes and famous African-Americans, according to a news release.

Pine Bluff Superintendent Michael Robinson will be the moderator for the event. Mayor Shirley Washington issued a proclamation declaring Feb. 19-22 as “Knowledge Bowl Week” in the city of Pine Bluff.

The contest includes students in grades 4-8. The overall elementary winner and overall junior high winner will receive cashiers’ checks. All student participants will receive Knowledge Bowl medallions and all school winners will receive trophies.

Preliminary contests were held and the following are the winners and alternate winners at these schools:

Broadmoor: North Winner – Jaquari Dillard, son of Kaidra Dockett; North Alternate Winner – Deriyon Graydon, son of Daryl and Yvette Graydon; South Winner – Colton Dill, son of Keith and Linda Savage; South Alternate Winner – Zamarion Moten, son of Luescre Cain;

Thirty – Fourth: North Winner – Xavier Smith, son of Monica Smith; North Alternate Winner – Jacorey Mason, son of Candice Allen and Sara Allen; South Winner – Kennedy Allen, daughter of Floyd Allen; South Alternate Winner – Ginger Broadway, daughter of Gloria McKissic;

W.T. Cheney: North Winner – Ke’Mari Rice, daughter of Kenyuanna Isby; North Alternate Winner – Jceri Gray, daughter of Jakari Crumblin; South Winner – Naja Hulsey, daughter of Rodney and Joyce Hulsey; South Alternate Winner – Adrienne Green, daughter of Beuka Jackson and Charles Washington;

Jack Robey: North Winner – Rodney Hulsey, son of Joyce Hawthorne; North Alternate Winner – Alysha Forrest, daughter of Marquita Ventress; South Winner – Braylon Starks, son of Onico Criner; and South Alternate Winner – Auriel Logan, daughter of Giona Logan.
