Pine Bluff resident joins National Society of Collegiate Scholars

Joy Ashlyn Byrd of Pine Bluff recently accepted an invitation of lifetime membership in The National Society of Collegiate Scholars (NSCS), according to a news release.

Byrd was the 2018 valedictorian at Ridgway Christian School and is an advanced sophomore at Arkansas State University.

She is majoring in science and mathematics biological sciences-pre professional.

“Her goal is to become an orthopedic surgeon,” according to the release. “She wants to use her medical knowledge and passion for people to be a medical missionary.”

The NSCS is the nation’s preeminent certified honor society for high-achieving first- and second –year collegiate students, according to the release.

“NSCS is an honors organization that recognizes, elevates, and connects high-achievers during and beyond their college careers. NSCS provides and graduate school connections, leadership and service experiences, practical and skills-based content, access to discounts and savings, and over $1 million dollars in scholarships, chapter funds, and awards annually,” according to the release.

Byrd is spending her summer in Orlando, Fla., as part of the “Orlando Project,” a campus ministry program.

She is the daughter of Pine Bluff residents Raymond and Bethel Byrd, according to the release.
