Pine Bluff Head Start sites to begin Sept. 1

The Community Services Office at Pine Bluff announces that the Head Start/Early Head Start Program is enrolling students for the new school year. The school term begins Tuesday, Sept. 1, with three options for children to attend classes, according to a news release.

Early Head Start is for children up to 2 years old and Head Start is for 3-4 year olds. The program is available for persons with income below 130% of the federal poverty level. Ten percent of the slots are reserved for children with disabilities regardless of income, according to Brainard E. Bivens, compliance monitor.

Head Start/Early Head Start Facilities in Jefferson County are located at: Dollarway — 4900 Dollarway Road; David Vaughn — 2101 W. 11th Ave.; and St. Peter’s — 1515 State St.

Three options are available to attend classes, according to Bivens.

CLASS OPTIONS:

Total Onsite Learning — The child would participate at school weekdays from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Total Distance Learning — The child would participate in learning activities and interactive lessons remotely from a computer or tablet or by packet and telephone.

Partial Onsite Learning — The child would attend school on site for two days per week — Mondays and Tuesdays or Thursdays and Fridays.

“Head Start and Early Head Start are designed to work with the whole family and encourages parents as their child’s first and most important teacher,” according to the release. “In addition to providing a free, quality pre-school experience, the program offers health, nutrition and social services.”

Head Start applications can be submitted between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. weekdays at the Community Services Office Administration Building, 1201 W. Pullen St.
