Pine Bluff Grider Field Aviation Museum to host fundraiser

The Pine Bluff Grider Field Aviation Museum will host a fundraiser to raise money to preserve a remaining World War II-era building at Pine Bluff Regional Airport.

Airport Manager Doug Hale welcomes people from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 1, at Pine Bluff Regional Airport. The purpose of the fundraiser is to provide money to restore and renovate the barrack and transform it into an aviation museum, he said. The United States Army Air Corps built Grider Field in 1941 to train pilots for World War II, Hale said. More than 10,000 pilots passed through the program from 1941 to 1943, he said.

As far as the cost, Hale said people may donate $10 for a barbecue sandwich, coleslaw, baked beans and a drink. Each meal ticket also serves as a raffle ticket with the winner getting a trip for two of an aerial sightseeing tour of the Pine Bluff area. Additional raffle tickets are available for $5 apiece and people may pay with cash or credit cards, Hale said.

Other attractions include a World War II-era aircraft on display, a low-level aerobatic demonstration and a formation flight demonstration, Hale said. Flying is scheduled to start at noon, Hale said.
