The Pine Bluff Community Band will present a concert at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 11, at the Star City Civic Center.
This will be the first time for the community band to perform in Star City and they hope to make it an annual event, Jim Monroe, band president, said in a news release.
“The music selected for this concert will be pleasing to the ear,” Jerry Williams, band director, said. “We’ll begin the program with a familiar Sousa march and continue playing other tunes such as ‘Rock Around The Clock’ and ‘Tuxedo Junction’.”
Other selections will include Tiv Cumberbatch playing the French horn concerto “Morceau de Concert” by Saint Saens; and the dueling solos played by Al Wimberly on alto sax and Garry Henson on trumpet in Henson’s arrangement of “Somewhere, My Love.”
The program will honor the memory of the late Arkansas composer W. Frances McBeth in playing his composition, “Masque.”
“Our concert will appeal to youth and adults so make plans to attend,” Monroe said.
This concert is open to the public.
