Pine Bluff Art League to meet Sunday

The Pine Bluff Art League will meet from 2-4 p.m. Sunday at the Donald Reynolds Community Services Center, 211 W. Third Ave.

The monthly meeting will include a showing of the Mustard Tree Festival from last year’s entries and information about entering this year’s competition, according to Shirley Dawson, president.

Several local artists have been involved in the festival since its inception in 2007, and some of their entries will be shown Sunday. The festival is Biblically themed, from “Genesis” to “Jonah” to “The Prodigal Son” to “Jesus, the Light” to this year’s theme, “All Things New.” For more information, contact Shirley Dawson or Lynda Payne.

Also on the agenda is a discussion of the Daffodil Festival at Camden the second weekend in March. Artists are encouraged to enter the logo competition as well as the art display. Dell Gorman was the logo winner in 2009, and Janet Peebles won second place in last year’s judging. The grand prize this year will be $1,000, and members are prompted to meet the requirements listed on website.

The group has sold dominoes and small art pieces the last two years, according to a spokesman.

In addition to the program, three “Artists of the Month” will be selected at the meeting. Winning paintings will hang for the coming month at Simmons Bank, Pine Bluff National Bank and at the Beaucoup’s Cajun Restaurant. Members are encouraged to bring original art for the contest.

The monthly meetings are always open to the public, and anyone interested in art is invited to attend. New visitors to the meeting are reminded to park on the south side of the building and enter through a door on that side.

Several upcoming workshops will be announced this next week. Members and non-members may attend these workshops, according to Dawson.

After the program, a short business meeting will include an announcement of newly selected officers and chairs for the different programs. A reminder about membership dues and the upcoming annual league exhibition will also be discussed.

Light refreshments will be served.
