Jane Fitch, a 30-year veteran of watercolor media, will demonstrate her silk-painting technique at the Pine Bluff Art League meeting.
The session will be held from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, April 2, at the Donald W. Reynolds Community Services Center, 211 W. Third Ave.
Fitch has studied with nationally recognized artists/teachers and won numerous awards locally and nationally.
According to a spokesman, painting on silk is a technique Fitch has recently mastered, particularly on 100 percent silk scarves.
“Her unique design is sketched onto the silk, then a resist outlining the pattern is applied. Using silk appropriate paints, which are water based and similar to watercolor, the entire scarf is covered in beautiful patterns,” the spokesman said.
Independent reporting for Pine Bluff & Jefferson County since 1879.
“The scarf is then due-set for easy-care hand-washing for the wearer,” Fitch said.
Her work is exhibited in Hot Springs and Hot Springs Village, where she resides, and Camden.
Members will also be voting on the artwork from area junior high schools at the meeting, according to Pat Sheffield, chair of the annual “Top Of the Middle” exhibit, which the art league sponsors. The reception and exhibit will be held at the Reynolds Center from 2-4 April 26, Sheffield said.
League president Vickie Coleman will also report on recent art shows and members currently in state art exhibits.
The public is invited, and anyone who loves art is encouraged to meet with the league members at the monthly meetings and at their Thursday paint days in the league studio, also in the Reynolds center.
