The Pine Bluff Art League has a busy October with several events on tap.
The Pine Bluff Art League will host a reception for “Studying Our World in Paint,” a husband and wife exhibition by acrylic, oil and watercolor painter Greg Reed and oil painter Kay Reed. The reception will be held from 5-7 p.m. Oct. 1 at the Donald W. Reynolds Community Services Center, 211 W. Third Ave. The public is invited to attend. This exhibition will be on view through Nov. 24, according to a news release.
“Mrs. Reed is a late-blooming oil painter learning to express the details of the world around her, creating two-dimensional language with every brushstroke. She engages with other artists and teachers to develop her skills at the Art Group Gallery in Little Rock, with Mastrius online and Dianne Mize online,” according to the release.
She earned “Best of Show” in the 2020 Arkansas League of Artists Winners’ Show, at the 2021 Arkansas State Fair in Oil Painting and at the 2023 Grand Prairie Fine Arts Festival. She has exhibited work in group exhibits: “Our Painting,” 2022, with Greg Reed at Second Baptist Church in Little Rock and “Saturday Faces,” 2023, with Jeremy Couch and Louise Terzia at ACANSA Gallery in North Little Rock.
Kay Reed spent her work life around universities, working with educators and students in teaching and administrative roles.

“Mr. Reed paints landscape compositions from his own experiences and those of people who have enriched him, creating life mementos,” according to the release.
He has won awards in shows sponsored by the Arkansas League of Artists, the Pine Bluff Art League and the Grand Prairie Festival of the Arts.
Reed learned painting at the Arkansas Museum of Fine Art School, Life Quest, Dianne Mize Academy, Robert Bean, David Cook and Sean LeCrone. He retired from the University of Tennessee and holds degrees in environmental engineering.
The Reeds live in northeast Grant County on property that had been Kay Reed’s grandfather’s family farm.
MEETING WITH MARLENE GREMILLION
During the art league’s monthly meeting, visiting artist Marlene Gremillion will present a Designing On Mineral Paper Demonstration from 2-4 p.m. Oct. 5 at the the Reynolds center. The public is invited to attend.
Gremillion will show various uses of mineral paper, a unique multimedia paper that is thin and made from calcium carbonate, providing a unique texture for water-based or dry media. For more information on Gremillion, visit marlenegremillion.com.
‘WINTER ESCAPE’ EXHIBITION
The art league will host its exhibition “Winter Escape,” featuring winter-themed artworks at the Reynolds center beginning Oct. 5. Work on display is created by southeast Arkansas community artists who are members of the league. The public is invited to enjoy the new exhibition.
