Pine Bluff area organizations cancel events

Several local organizations are cancelling events or closing offices because of concerns over the coronavirus.

Pine Bluff Art League cancels sessions

The Pine Bluff Art League won’t meet in April. The workshop scheduled on April 25 is also cancelled. A release will be made at the end of April as to the status of the meeting in May, a spokeswoman said.

White Hall Chamber cancels egg hunt

White Hall Chamber of Commerce’s annual Easter Egg Hunt has been postponed until further notice, according to a spokesman.

Greater St. Marion postpones event

The Greater St. Marion District Baptist Association cancelled its annual ushers’ program that was scheduled for Sunday, March 29, at New Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church.

UAM postpones May graduation

The University of Arkansas at Monticello will postpone the May 8 spring commencement at the Monticello campus. UAM will confer earned degrees and diplomas will be mailed to students in late June. May graduates will be invited to participate in the Dec. 11, 2020, commencement ceremony.

PBICVR VITA Center suspends free tax preparation

Amid the coronavirus outbreak, the U.S. Internal Revenue Service has moved the tax filing deadline to July 15, 2020. The Pine Bluff Interested Citizens for Voter Registration Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Center, which suspended free income tax preparation March 16, will remain suspended until Monday, April 6. U of A cancels Master Gardener conference

Citing concerns over the spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus, as well as the high number of flu cases reported in the state over the past few months, administrators with the University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture announced Friday that they are postponing the 2020 Master Gardener Conference, originally scheduled for May 14-16 in Jonesboro.
