Pine Bluff Area Church News beginning 1-17-20

CONCERTS

SOUTHSIDE SINGING CENTER, 5420 W. 15th Ave., will host a quartet musical at 7 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 19. Gospel quartet groups will include Chistland, Faith of Harmony, Mighty Gospelletts and Shining Stars.

CHERRY HILL MISSIONARY BAPTIST CHURCH at Moscow will host a Night of Love for the pastor, the Rev. David Marks, at 6 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 18. All gospel singing groups, choirs and soloists are invited to participate.

MEN’S DAY

MT. BAYOU MISSIONARY BAPTIST CHURCH at Altheimer will observe its annual men’s day at 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 19. The guest speaker will be the Rev. Glenn Barnes, pastor of Pine Hill Missionary Baptist Church. Guests will also include Ivan Whitfield, a deacon at Pine Hill. The Southeast Arkansas Male Chorus will sing.

REVIVALS

• DOUBLE WELLS ASSEMBLY OF GOD, 12924 Sulphur Springs Road, will continue its revival on the following dates with these speakers: Jan. 19 — 10:30 a.m. Jim Babcock, chaplain, Cummins Prison Unit; 6 p.m. the Rev. Ronald Grundy, Double Wells; Jan. 26 — 10:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. Buell Curtis, evangelist, Living Faith Church at Fayetteville; Jan. 31 and Feb. 1 — 7 p.m. and Feb. 2 — 10:30 a.m. Linda Williams, evangelist, Healing Hands Church of Truman.

SPECIAL EVENTS

WATKIN CHAPEL MISSIONARY BAPTIST CHURCH, 800 S. Juniper St., will present a fellowship service at 11 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 19. Special guests will be the internationally known University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Vesper Choir directed by Jerron A. Liddell.

• MT. NEBO MISSIONARY BAPTIST CHURCH, 3201 W. Second Ave., will host the City Wide Mission at 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 20.

ST. JOHN AME CHURCH, 1117 W. Pullen Ave., will provide free meals through the “Soul Food Feeding Program for the Mind, Body and Spirit.” Lunch on Saturdays will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Breakfast on Sundays begin at 9 a.m.

OLD SAINT JAMES MISSIONARY BAPTIST CHURCH, 4512 S. Ohio St., will host Justice Sunday, the 37th annual Original KingFest Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Church Commemoration Program. Service will be held at 6 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 19. The keynote speaker will be Gary Bell, pastor of First Assembly of God, and music will be provided by choirs of Old St. James church and First Assembly.

HOLMES CHAPEL PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH HAWKINS CENTER at Monticello will host the annual MLK Breakfast Monday, Jan. 20, following the Drew County NAACP MLK Parade in downtown Monticello at 9 a.m. Donations are accepted and children eat free. The Drew County NAACP Branch #6042 is the sponsor.

HOLY TEMPLE CHURCH OF GOD IN CHRIST at Monticello will host the Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration at 6 p.m. Monday, Jan. 20. The guest speaker will be Fitz Hill. The Drew County NAACP Branch #6042 is the sponsor.

GREATER NEW CALVARY CHURCH OF GOD IN CHRIST at Camden will host the 11th annual MLK Freedom Celebration concert presented by the African American Historical Commission of Camden. The concert will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 19. The concert will feature the Mt. Gillard Male Chorus, St. Paul’s Christian Church Male Chorus and AAHCC Hall of Famer June Rogers’ choir. Dr. Lee Charles Nayles will also discuss his educational and legal ties to Camden. Admission is free.

NEW HOME MISSIONARY BAPTIST CHURCH, 3000 S. Orange St., will host the 60th Diamond Anniversary Banquet honoring the Williams Singers of Pine Bluff at 6 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 1. Musical guests are Lady Kenbria and the Girls, Devin Pruitt and Spiritually Driven and Sons of Glory. NATIONAL TRUSTED PARTNERS FOR CHRIST INC., 2101 E. Sixth Ave., will host its winter board meeting. At 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 3, service will feature the Rev. Christopher Briggs, pastor of New Birth Missionary Baptist Church, and his congregation. At 8 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 4, the Women of Grace will sponsor the prayer breakfast. The speaker will be the Rev. Renwick Bacon and tickets are $15. At 7 p.m. Feb. 4, the Great Faith Banquet will be held and the speaker is the Rev. Henry J. Lyons, president of the National Partners. Tickets are $25. At 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 5, the event will feature the Rev. Richard P. Bifford and the New Hope Baptist Church at Altheimer.

BREATH OF LIFE CHURCH will host Efrem Neely, a lawyer, as the guest speaker at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 19. All youth are invited.
