Pine Bluff Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta hosts summit

The Pine Bluff Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. hosted the 2018 Arkansas State Summit, Feb. 16-18, at the Wyndham Hotel at North Little Rock.

The theme was “Diamonds are Forever: Strong, Timeless, Resilient.” More than 375 members of the organization from across the state gathered for the summit.

Leadership present included Southwest Regional Director Pamela M. Rogers, Regional Representative MacKenzie B. Jenkins, Arkansas State Coordinator Claudette Barbee, and Arkansas State Facilitator Markesha Davis.

Other dignitaries included the 16th National President Thelma Thomas Daley, National Secretary Elsie Cooke-Holmes and members of the national executive board.

“The weekend began with an enjoyable tour of the Divine Nine Exhibit at the Mosaic Templars Cultural Center followed by an afternoon reception honoring Dr. Thelma Thomas Daley,” a spokeswoman said in a news release.

Friday night, the event featured a Denim and Diamonds themed welcome reception. Welcome and greetings were made by regional and state leadership along with Isaac Henry (City of North Little Rock), Scott Sudduth (North Little Rock Convention and Visitors Bureau), and representatives from the Divine Nine organizations.

Saturday was filled with the general session and empowering workshops. Daley was the keynote speaker for the Founders Day Celebration and Awards Banquet.

The Pine Bluff Alumnae Chapter received the following awards during the banquet: First Place in the Heritage and Archives Video Competition; Five Star Standard of Excellence for Outstanding Achievement in the area of Compliance; Diamond Standard Program Award for the Distinguished Gentlemen Program; and Arkansas Flame Award for Outstanding Chapter Participation.

Pine Bluff Alumnae Chapter President, Kelly D. Bryant, received the Arkansas Diamond Award for her outstanding contributions to the sorority. Bryant has served in leadership for four years.

The event ended with a praise and worship service Sunday.

“The Pine Bluff Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. remains zealous in service to the community of Pine Bluff with programs aligning with the Sorority’s Five Point Programmatic Thrust: Economic Development, Educational Development, International Awareness and Involvement, Physical and Mental Health, and Political Awareness and Involvement,” according to the release.
