Pine Bluff Interested Citizens for Voter Registration, Inc. will host a free Christmas dinner for all Pen or Pencil King Team students and their parents/guardian at 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, at the Donald W. Reynolds Community Services Center, 211 West Third Avenue in Pine Bluff.
According to a news release, the event will be held in meeting rooms A and B. Speakers for the dinner are Rebecca Newby, an English teacher in the Watson Chapel School District, and Moriah Houston, a student at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff. Both are POP King Team alumni.
POP King Team alumnus are welcome to attend by RSVPing to (870) 730-1131 not later than 3 p.m. Friday, Dec. 14.
“POP, by design, integrates the robust use of history and social-emotional learning techniques translated into today’s contemporary parallels to address critical personal risk factors and experiences to inspire transformational behavior in the lives of youth,” the news release said.
“Pen is short for penitentiary and pencil, which represents education and the opportunity to write a new history of options in the quest for success.”
“We are committed to engaging parents and students to positively influence the lives of young people, families and neighborhoods by implementing and utilizing the Ten Point Strategies to reduce violence and emphasize the importance of education, employment and community partnerships,” said Larry C. Battles, co-leader of the Pine Bluff National Ten Point Pen or Pencil Expansion Hub.
