Employees of Pine Bluff Wastewater Utility recently participated in the Walk Across America 2016 Fitness Challenge, according to manager Ken Johnson.
He said 15 of the 48 employees of the utility were involved in the challenge, and said the group came close to meeting their goal, recording 2,780 miles, or the distance from California to South Carolina in a 10-week period. The employees set their initial goal as 2,924 miles.
In addition to the team goal, there were individual goals for the employee who walked the most miles and the employee who experienced the most weight loss.
Johnson said employee Robert Birts won the challenge for the most miles walked with a total of 491 and Alyssa Thomas won the challenge for the most weight lost.
“Management supported this event in conjunction with our June Health Fair in which all city employees were invited to participate,” Johnson said. “We realize that a healthy employee is less likely to miss work due to common ailments and that employee is also more productive while at work,” Johnson said.
