PB Twins fall to Camden’s Pulpwood in first game of doubleheader

The season opener for the Pine Bluff Twins didn’t go their way, as they were defeated by Arkansas Pulpwood 7-1.

Pulpwood, out of Camden, used nine hits to manufacture their offensive attack. The Twins used four pitchers in attempts to slow down Pulpwood. The most effective of those four was the starter, Jordan O’Guinn, but he was pulled after the first two innings.

Streeter (first name not given on the roster) got the start for Pulpwood, but he was replaced by Reed (first name not given on the roster) in the bottom of the second. Reed gave up Pine Bluff’s lone run in the third, as Braelin Hence ripped one for a RBI single.

Garrett Dennis replaced O’Guinn on the mound in the top of the third. Pulpwood didn’t get their first hit until the top of the fourth inning, when Reed connected for a base hit. He was directly followed by a Tidwell base hit that loaded the bases, setting the table for Rogers. Rogers stepped up and connected for a RBI double that scored Pulpwood’s first two runs.

Blake Phillips was Pine Bluff’s fourth pitcher to enter, and Pulpwood jumped on top of him in the top of the sixth. Youngblood belted one for an RBI double that scored two for Pulpwood. Not long after, an errant throw from Pine Bluff’s catcher allowed the runner to score from third, giving Pulpwood a 5-1 advantage.

Phillips was left in for the seventh, and Pulpwood picked up three more hits and a couple of runs. Thomas Prince connected for an RBI single, and Jordan Sample scored from third after another Pine Bluff error.

Although the effort was there, the Twins couldn’t plate six runs in the bottom of the seventh to tie the score. Rogers finished off the game for Pulpwood with three straight KO’s to close this one out.

This was the first of a double header between the Twins and Pulpwood on Tuesday. The second game began too late for the Commercial’s press time.
