The Arkansas State Highway Commission approved a bid for improvements to roadways in Arkansas and Jefferson counties, according to the Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department (AHTD) officials.
The purpose of the project is to resurface 1.6 miles of four roadways in Altheimer, and 1.5 miles of six roadways in Humphrey. The work will be performed on the following streets.
Altheimer — Second Street resurfacing between Cherry Street and Orchard Street
Altheimer — Third Street resurfacing between Olive Street and Division Street
Altheimer — Division Street resurfacing extends north from 2nd Street

Altheimer — Short Street resurfacing between Division Street and Arkansas Avenue
Humphrey — Buerkle Avenue resurfacing extends east of Chestnut Street
Humphrey — South Division Street resurfacing between Theresa Ave and Railroad Avenue
Humphrey — North Hickory Street resurfacing between Arkansas 79 and Maurice Avenue
Humphrey — North Mulberry Street resurfacing between Arkansas 79 and Maurice Avenue
Humphrey — South Mulberry Street resurfacing between East Railroad Ave and East South Avenue
Humphrey — North Oak Street resurfacing between Arkansas 79 and Forest Avenue
Pine Bluff Sand and Gravel, Co. of Pine Bluff, was awarded the contract at $425,238.66.
Construction is scheduled to begin in two to four weeks, weather permitting. The project should be complete by the end of this year.
This project is being funded through the State Aid City Streets Program approved by lawmakers in 2011 and voters in 2012. This program provides $20 million annually from the state motor fuels tax to assist cities with projects selected by a nine-member panel of Arkansas mayors.
