PB Man killed in Saturday accident

A Pine Bluff man was killed in a two-vehicle accident on Interstate 530 Saturday afternoon.

According to a preliminary report from the Arkansas State Police, Winfred Orrin Smith, 63, was northbound at the 28 mile marker when he lost control of the 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe he was driving and hit a 2003 Chevrolet Monte Carlo that was also northbound, then rotated right, overturned. Smith was ejected.

Jefferson County Coroner Chad Kelley said Smith was pronounced dead at the scene by Deputy Coroner Shannon Bohannon at 5:49 p.m. The cause of death was listed as multiple blunt force trauma.

The driver of the other vehicle was not identified in the preliminary report.

The accident was reported at 4:26 p.m., and according to the preliminary report from Trooper Brandon K. Porter, the weather was clear and the roadway was dry at the time.

The death was the 385th reported so far this year on the state’s highways.
