A Pine Bluff man was arrested April 5 on alleged domestic battery charges that officials later discovered were apparently his fifth offense.
Robert Hayes Jr., 44, was taken into custody by Pine Bluff police after they were dispatched at 4:25 p.m. to the 3500 block of West 2nd Avenue on a domestic disturbance call, according to the police affidavit. The victim alleged that Hayes had been drinking all afternoon when he began cursing at her and punching her in the face and body. Officers reported seeing several big knots and scratches on her face and arms.
The officers reported finding Hayes at a location around the block, where he was taken into custody. When he was booked into the detention center, officials discovered it was his fifth alleged domestic battery offense.
In a court appearance Thursday, Jefferson County District Judge Kim Bridgforth set a $50,000 unsecured bond for Hayes, ordered him to have no contact with the victim until the case is settled, appointed the Public Defender’s Office to represent him and told him to return to court June 7.
