PB blasts past LR Hall

In 6A east conference tournament play Tuesday at Little Rock, the Pine Bluff Zebras cruised to a win over the Little Rock Hall Warriors by a final of 16-1.

Due to the 15-run rule, it only took the Zebras three innings to put this one in the books. The Warriors were out-matched in all phases of the game.

Pine Bluff used nine hits to manufacture their offensive attack. Six of the Zebras’ 16 runs were unearned, as Hall accounted for seven errors.

In the bottom of the first, the Zebras went through the entire batting rotation, allowing the first and second batters to take the plate twice. Starting pitcher Anthony Boult gave up six hits and six runs in the first.

After retiring three straight batters, the Zebras kept on scoring in the second inning. In the bottom of the second, Pine Bluff plated nine runs, with four of them unearned.

Rod Stinson Jr. recorded the win for the Zebras from the mound. Through the first two innings, Stinson threw three strike outs, and he didn’t allow a runner on base. Randy Little Jr. closed the game out for the Zebras, picking up two strike outs in the third and final inning.

Pine Bluff senior Brandon Little spearheaded the offense, going 2/2 for four RBIs. Tyler Reynolds went 2/2 as well, accounting for two RBIs. Stinson was also 2/2 with a stand up triple and a single.

Wes Harp recorded two Zebra RBIs, while Xavier Smith accounted for another.

The Zebras will now move on to the next round to play the winner between Searcy and West Memphis. The game is scheduled for Saturday with the time and location to be announced. Saturday’s winner will claim the fifth seed in the upcoming 6A state tournament.
