Parliamentary Procedure training to be offered April 16

The Jefferson County Cattlemen’s Association (JCCA) and the County Extension office will host a training session on Parliamentary Procedure at 5:30 p.m. April 16 at the Jefferson County Extension Office, 500 Idaho St.

The program will start with a BBQ dinner followed by a presentation from Bobby Hall, community development specialist with the University of Arkansas, Division of Agriculture, Cooperative Extension Service. Hall is also president of the Arkansas Parliamentarian’s Association and has presented sessions statewide on the topic.

Dennis Bailey, staff chairman of the County Extension office, said this will be the second such meeting in 2012 since the first meeting, hosted by the Extension Homemakers Council, filled their conference room and registration had to be closed. “I believe people who work with committees, boards and other public advisory groups are seeking to improve the business flow and efficiency of meetings in general,” Bailey said.

How many times do meetings drag out and result in very little progress because of poor procedures? Roberts Rules were designed for a purpose and these sessions, taught by one of the best trainers in the country, will show community leaders how easy it could be to make any business meeting more successful. People on church boards, community associations and many other groups were represented in the first session. Those who attended that session in March reported that they were impressed with the program and plan to put the training to work immediately. Tough agenda items are better dealt with and more cooperation can be accomplished when meetings follow a good set of rules, and this training will help meet those goals.

The JCCA will help with meal plans and requests that participants register before 4:30 p.m. Friday by calling the Extension office at 870-534-1033. Registration can also be done by e-mail to dbailey@uaex.edu.
