A request to use Regional Park as the setting for a youth “fun day” observance to highlight “community care and support” was tentatively approved by the Pine Bluff Parks and Recreation Commission in a Tuesday meeting.
The commission reserved a final endorsement, deciding a check with the city attorney’s office to determine liability issues should first be made. Once a legal opinion is received, the panel may have a special meeting to consider giving the proposed event a go-ahead nod.
Taleshia Glover asked that the park host her proposed, initial “Care Awareness Day,” which would feature children’s games and activities. Glover said she is currently seeking sponsors.
Pine Bluff Parks and Recreation Department special events coordinator Trudy Redus suggested that Glover should look at combining her initiative with another, more-established and/or better-funded event.
Glover told commissioners she is hoping Care Awareness Day could be held on one of two Saturdays, June 2 or 16.

Commissioners discussed renovations at the Chester Hynes Community Center, some ongoing and others completed. During a brief business session, commissioners unanimously approved wording of a 2012 vendor contract.
The panel’s next regular meeting was slated for 4 p.m. Tuesday, April 24.
