OPINION | LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Domestic violence awareness

Lafayette Woods Jr.

Stand with survivors

Editor, The Commercial:

In observance of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, the Jefferson County sheriff’s office stands with survivors and families. Domestic violence is a crime and a public-safety issue. Our deputies use trauma-informed interviewing, lethality assessments, and rapid referrals to connect people with safe shelter, protective options, and advocacy.

We are partnering with CASA Women’s Shelter and community providers to ensure help is available day and night.

If you or someone you know needs help, you are not alone: Call 1-800-799-SAFE (7233), text START to 88788, or visit thehotline.org for 24/7 confidential support.

To friends and family: believe survivors, know the warning signs (control, isolation, threats, strangulation), and share these resources. Together, Jefferson County can reduce harm, save lives, and support healing.
