Seeking plans
Editor, The Commercial:
I commend the many candidates eager to run for political office and serve the public.
Nonetheless, I pose this question to all of them: How do you plan to tackle crime, promote economic development, and improve the quality of life in our declining city? Additionally, depending on the office you are seeking, do you have a written plan to address the challenges facing this struggling city and to bring unity and improvement to the county government?
Many candidates express interest in running for office but lack a concrete plan to address these issues. For me, this raises concerns about their seriousness and the thought they have put into their candidacy. The voting public deserves to have something positive to vote for, rather than merely voting against a candidate.

Elected officials have a unique opportunity to address vital issues affecting our community. Voters should consider whether a candidate has demonstrated a willingness to volunteer without compensation in the past. Have they shown a genuine desire to make a difference rather than just seeking a paycheck? If the answer is yes, their resumes should reflect their community service, detailing when, where, and how they have impacted the community they wish to serve. Voters wait too long to ask officeholders questions. You should pay attention and then approach your elected officials about improvement.
Please share how you plan to address these challenges and how you intend to fund your solutions.
