Bring back draft

Editor, The Commercial:

America has some problems. I think I have the solution to some of them if the legislature could implement my ideas. The mass firings caused by President Trump will certainly end paychecks for families involved, and the end of Affirmative Action in college admissions will find more young people out of school, out of work and out of money.

All branches of our military have shortages in personnel, and one of the reasons is that too many young people are disqualified because of obesity.

I believe we need to begin military drafting — of women as well as men — and in this manner: Include young men and women between the ages of 18 and 20; none to be rejected because of obesity; the tour of duty to be 4 years; and the first year for both sexes would be dedicated to just getting all of them into physical condition.

Afterwards, the women would be taught clerical skills to free up men from office jobs and prepare them for warfare. And the women would be taught how to cook, balance check books and sew, as well as other domestic duties, preparing them to become housewives upon discharge from military, aimed at returning our nation to times when women were more like mothers and wives; less like sports heroines and cheer moms. None would be trained for actual military action duty. Training bases for women would be separate from men’s so there would be no distractions.

All of the new trainees would begin receiving paychecks, and they would be fed and clothed, so the economy would be aided; the physical needs of the military would be met; the overall health of our nation’s young people would be enhanced, and America would be stronger than it has ever been.
